Batting first, India scored 298 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa was bowled out for 246 runs. Deepti Sharma turned the match around by taking five wickets. South African captain El Wolvaardt's 101-run innings went in vain. This is India's first ODI World Cup title in the 52-year history of the Women's ODI World Cup. The first Women's ODI World Cup was played in 1973. In addition to Deepti, Shafali Verma also performed brilliantly. She scored 87 runs with the bat and took two wickets. From India's side, Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs and Shefali scored 87 runs. Apart from this, Smriti Mandhana scored 45 runs. Richa Ghosh played a stormy inning of 34 runs in 24 balls. Jemima Rodrigues was out after scoring 24 runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur was out after scoring 20 runs. Whereas, Amanjot Kaur scored 12 runs. From South Africa's side, Ayabonga Khaka took three wickets. Whereas, Malaba, De Klerk and Chloe Tryon got one wicket each.
Slow start to South Africa's innings
Chasing a target of 299, South Africa got off to a good start. Brits was run out for 23. Bosch returned to the pavilion without scoring. Luus was dismissed for 25 off 31 balls. Shefali dismissed her. Marizanne Kapp managed only four runs off 5 balls. Deepti dismissed Jafta, who scored 16 runs. Dirksen was dismissed for 35 off 37 balls. Captain Laura Wolvaardt was out for 101 off 98 balls. Amanjot Kaur took a brilliant catch. Tryon could only score nine runs off 8 balls. Deepti dismissed de Klerk to make India the champions. Deepti Sharma took five wickets in the final.
