The previous record was held by Sanjay Bangar and Rahul Dravid (405), which they made in Leeds in 2002.



Washington Sundar, who came to bat at number five, shared a 34-run partnership with Shubman Gill. During this, captain Gill scored 103 runs in 238 balls. During this, 12 fours came off his bat. Gill completed his fourth century in the current series in 228 balls. This is also the ninth century of his Test career. With this, Gill equaled Bradman. Bradman holds the record for scoring the most centuries in a series as a captain. He scored four centuries against India in 1947. Gill was caught by Archer at the hands of wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.



After this, Washington Sundar was joined by Ravindra Jadeja. Both handled India's innings till the last breath and not only averted the crisis of defeat in the innings looming over India but also got the match drawn. There was an unbeaten partnership of 203 runs in 334 balls for the fourth wicket between the two. During this, Jadeja completed the fifth century of his Test career in 182 balls while Sundar completed his first Test century in 206 balls. Both remained unbeaten after scoring 107 and 101 runs respectively. Earlier, India's second innings started with jolts. Chris Woakes made Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan his victims with the start of the innings. Both the batsmen could not even open their account. In India's second innings, Chris Woakes took two wickets for England while Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes got one success each.

Ravindra Jadeja has become the second foreign batsman to complete 1000 runs while batting at number 6 or below in Tests in England. At the top in this case is Garry Sobers, who scored 1097 runs.
